Ambushed By A British Identity
I have always been fascinated by the British citizenship test, mandated by the government for new immigrants to the country; one which requires some answers that not even British born natives can supply! Obviously, top marks meant you acquired your new identity as a Briton, being fully integrated into the society, from the very first day!

Death Of An Astonishing Legend
I lost a great friend, and poetry icon today, December 7th, when I woke up to the news that he had died. I am still numb from the shock. Apparently he was diagnosed with a brain tumour only eight weeks ago. He was only 65, too young by today's mortality rates to exit this life. He seems to have affected so many people across our diverse society, men and women, Black and White, with his words of wisdom, resistance and desire for basic equality.

The Great British Pub: A Cultural Cornerstone
There are over 50,000 pubs in the United Kingdom, the oldest being Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, which was founded in 793 AD. British pubs are integral to UK life, having been a part of UK culture for centuries. They have been featured in literature, music, and film: a constant reminder of British history and heritage. Regarded as great British 'institutions', they are popular destinations for people of all ages and backgrounds. Being more than just places to drink alcohol, they are also social hubs where people come together to relax, chat, eat and have fun. The most famous pub in the UK is The Sherlock Holmes Pub in London, which is said to be the inspiration for the fictional detective's favourite haunt.

Unmasking The Root Cause of Manager-Staff Discontent
According to a popular handbook for managers written years ago, a good manager motivates others by "encouraging ambition, the desire to achieve, and a wish to contribute to the collective good of the business". This was followed by a list of qualities regarded as important to this role (like being decisive, setting high standards and defining responsibility). No doubt, those are useful pre-requisites for leading and engaging others, but concentrating on just those qualities assume that all managers start from the same point with the same perspectives. Unfortunately, they don't, for a simple but crucial reason.

Reaching 100 On Vocal: But Are All Communities Equal?
This is my 100th post, and it has taken me nearly six months to reach it. I learnt about Vocal by chance, while searching for something else, and it was not a persuasive introduction. In fact, the critique from another platform was pretty scathing and off-putting. However, noting that the piece was written over two years ago, my open mind suggested that Vocal could have changed some things since then. I decided to give it a try, at least for a couple of months, as its approach aligned with what I was seeking. Well, as you can see, I am still here, so there must be something appealing about it!

The Main Secret Of The Successful Business. Top Story - November 2023.
Not too long ago I was booked into a hotel in Manchester which treated the guests as though they should be grateful to be able to stay there. The service left much to be desired, despite their great Citizen's Charter which was paraded everywhere, and I made a mental note, as well as passing the word along, about not staying there in the future.
