The Dragons Beside Me
History is filled with great women both remembered and forgotten. The first woman history remembered for me was Joan of Arc. She came alive from the pages of my history textbook in elementary school. A warrior braver than any superhero. But that was only the beginning. Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks floored me with the amount of courage they displayed. Susan B. Anthony and Amelia Earhart showed me how much you can accomplish when society tells you, you can't. Sylvia Plath and Maya Angelou taught me how much meaning words can carry. Harper Lee's book To Kill a Mockingbird inspired me so much that I named my youngest daughter, Addilynn Harper Mcghee.

The Ohio Sky
"Little girls are made of gunpowder and lead" ~Miranda Lambert Prologue Kate knew he was coming home. Knew from the time his truck tore out of the driveway until his headlights lit up the front window again that he was coming home. Her eyes moved to the clock. Six hours since he'd stormed out of the front door. Six hours to drink all he could. Six hours to let his anger grow. Fear raced through every part of her trembling body with the knowledge that his coming back wasn't just a thought anymore. He was here.

Footprints in white
Footprints in white, trailing off into the night. I follow breathlessly by the light of the moon. Hoping to beat the snowflakes falling, that threaten to cover them up. My heart races knowing the fear that must be racing through yours.

What you lost
I watch as you walk down the sidewalk not noticing the rain falling from the sky above. Everything I have inside me wishes I could reach out and touch the side of your face. Wishes I could look deep into your brown eyes and ease your pain. Wishes I could feel my thumb sliding across the wet skin of your cheek when I wipe away your tears.

The Interview
Interview, everybody's been getting one, here's mine. That's what I tell myself when I walk through the big doors of the theater already wishing I was anywhere but where I was. I'm not a big spotlight guy. I prefer the shadows where it's safer.
