Regret

Yellowish colors painted in a vanilla sky, demons portrayed in recollections

Brush strokes of Monet, karma calling home, horizons bleeding with sins

Can we show how kind our evil is?

~

Spiderwebs hang waiting, in the corners of open doorways

Covering imperfect skin, before hands rush, to wipe away the nightmares

How did we lose ourselves in places we didn't want to go?

~

Pottery wheels spin, ghosts mold pieces of clay with revenant hands

Kilns burn with flames, baking past days, until what used to be explodes

Are we just running from the eyes we see in the mirror?

~

Compasses turn round and round, unscrewing needles

Circles of glass fall, directions escape, disappearing in the winds

Where will we go when time won't let us go back?

~

Drops of hail rain down in white ice, falling from troubled skies

Seasons of guilt, pass repentant, in tears cried from wounds

Can we forgive ourselves for the skeletons we keep?

~

Forgiveness of oneself is so difficult, but holding on to it, is almost prideful, in a way, too. Your poem is intriguing.

awesome and makes me wonder, can I every forgive / forget the skeletons I keep. they keep coming back to haunt me.

That is sometimes the hardest of forgiveness, of oneself. Great choice of words and wonderful flow, one line sets up the next.

  • That's a truly hard sell for me. Forgiving anyone else seems possible, even in the most dramatic of cases, but me...?

Love how each of the prompt words took center stage in a stanza, yet a cohesive tone and thread links them clearly!

Our kind of evil can be “kind” as if self righteousness and pity can draw out the intention, I really enjoyed your philosophical piece

  • This is amazing… ‘Brush strokes of Monet… Compasses turn round and round, unscrewing needles Circles of glass fall, directions escape, disappearing in the winds Where will we go when time won't let us go back?’ Excellent use of the word prompts!🤩 Such evocative language.
