Aftermath
To hear the crunch under her stumbling footsteps echo through the fallen buildings from the explosions that occurred just months before gave her a shudder. Her hiding was the result of waiting for the fallout to settle. She was tired and hurt from nursing the wounded and was ready to find her family. The explosions had displaced so many people, including herself. She now needed to find those closest to her. She could only hope they would still be alive. Were they displaced as she was, or worse? Finding them was all she could think about, or at least… it.

Prequel to The Awakening
“Good-by, because I love you.” She looked into the distance, and the old terror flamed up for an instant, then sank again. Edna heard her father’s voice and her sister Margaret’s. She heard the barking of an old dog that was chained to the sycamore tree. The spurs of the cavalry officer clanged as he walked across the porch. There was the hum of bees, and the musky odor of pinks filled the air.”

The day my world fell silent
In 2020, humanity was struck hard with a pandemic. A very contagious and deadly upper respiratory virus claimed the lives of 3.4 million people worldwide that year. We were not ready for something so devastating and what was worse, we had no idea how to fight this virus. Despite the number of bodies that continued to stack up each day, officials stuck with the promise that things were under control and that life before the virus would resume in time. Vaccines were being rapidly developed and distributed worldwide. As people complied with receiving the vaccines and following health guidelines, it seemed that the fatalities from the virus had stabilized. Simultaneously as the virus ravaged our world, riots between civilians and law enforcement over human rights were constantly erupting through the cities across the nation, taking a violent turn as buildings were set on fire in every city. Business fronts were destroyed, and cars were overturned. More people fighting in the streets resulted in even more deaths. What we were not told is that the bodies that sat in the hospitals, funeral homes and mass graves waiting to be returned to their families for proper goodbyes, began to rise once again. This was held from public knowledge by officials across the world until it was too late. Military units had been ordered to move to the streets to try to contain the uprising of the undead but were unsuccessful. Many brave civilians joined at the front lines to try to fight them off, while others scrambled to make attempts of loading up their cars and evacuating. With millions of people trying to escape and nowhere to escape to, families ended up abandoning their cars and belongings to try their luck on foot. Life as we knew it was for sure over and within a month of the dead beginning to rise, millions of people were torn apart and devoured by the hoards, leading us to damn near extinction. The metropolises that were once booming and full of life and determination, now left to ruins. Windows and doors of every building shattered and looted. Broken down and abandoned cars blocked the streets. Scavengers picked off the flesh of corpses that lay scattered on the roads. Hoards of the undead continue to roam in search of the next unlucky soul to run into them. For those that have survived to this point, day to day is all about scavenging for food and resources and fighting off the undead as they wander about. One valuable thing that us survivors have learned is that the most effective way at killing the undead is a direct head shot. Day to day I find myself constantly reminiscing about life before all this.

Battletech: The Arano Restoration
"I am Kamea Arano, High Lady of the Aurigan Reach, Protector of Coromodir and the Sword of Restoration. But I am not a hero, no matter what the stories say. A hero would have sacrificed more, compromised less. A hero would have done better.

Everett "did he say where from?" clerk replies "he bought them on the outskirts of town near the old ruins where the gypsies camp out. they're a weird people but their women are beautiful sometimes dressed with the most beautiful attire a rare sight to behold." Everett laughs "I thought you had a wife ?" clerk replies "Everett I haven't been married in a while, four years as a fact the only thing I have of hers is a heart-shaped locket." We rush to the family but as we stepped closer to them we noticed they were covered in blood as well." patrolman 2 stops and stares "but it wasnt their blood on them ... i cant believe im saying this but...they were eating the horses." Everett and the clerk look at each other horrified by what they just heard . everett with fear in his voice looks at the patrolman and says "eating them ?!?!" patrolman 2" yes, they were eating their horses and by the time we turned to get back on ours one had sprang from their carriage and took it down with no problem so we escaped on the other one and rode until we saw your shop." Everett walks to the window and asks "where do you think they are now ?" Patrolman 2" I dont know im assuming theyre still on the road, it was a family of four well five including the one that jumped out of the carriage. everett 'well first things first none of you got injured on the way here right?" Patrolman 1 replies " no none of us got touched by them, but we left our items on the other horse." as the patrolman was talking loud noises are heard on the roof and the back of the shop. patrolman 2 "Is there anybody else here with you ?" They all look towards the back and the clerk immediately runs to the register and grabs to revolvers, he throws one to everett and the patrolman.clerk "everett you know how to use one of those ?" everett replies" yes,its been a while but i remember." patrolman 1 " do you have any other weapons? we left ours on the other horse." just then a huge crash is heard as though something had been broken open. clerk 'theyve broken down the door to the supply room we have to move now." they all run out of the shop, guns in hand and two men per horse ,as they head up the road one of the creatures busts through the shop window and starts sprinting after their horses.despite the speed of the horse the creature gains speed on the horse of everett and patrolman 1. Everett turns around and sees this humanoid creature running after them. Everett points the gun at the creature behind them as he stares at it making sure to make this shot a good one. he lines his sights up and pulls the trigger BOOM , he hits the creature in the shoulder and it goes down, but everett doesnt take his eyes off the creature in disbelief of what he just saw , then as he is about to turn around to focus on the road he hears a scream, not a normal scream but the scream of a huge wounded animal he turns around quickly to see the creature running at them on all fours gaining two times the speed he had before but its appearance was different this time it lost its human features it had before and it stunned everett at least long enough for the creature to take a swipe at the back of the horses hoof. patrolman 1 screams"everett, whats going on ?!?!" everett quickly pulls hisself together and points the revolver at the creature. BOOM,BOOM he lets off 2 rounds at the creature hitting it with both shots.the creature runs towards the forest and everett and the patrolmen race to catch up with the other two.

Little Red
Sister Agnes walked into the room where the children were sleeping, checking each of them one by one in the dim candlelight. Every night she wandered through the grand hall that was strewn and littered with cots, trying to ensure that the orphans were washed, had brushed their teeth, and said their prayers. For the most part, she considered it a tedious job given how many of these forgotten ones there were, but she tried to put the boredom of this nightly ritual out of her mind. She knew that she needed to focus on her work. Truth be told these children were the only thing keeping her and the other workers of the soup kitchen going. Without the little orphans here and the others before them, the Sacred Heart would have perished long ago. Since the Blast, which had literally turned the soil to poison, there was little that could be grown. In fact, hardly anything had survived at all. She knew that they needed these children to sustain the work. It was as simple as that.
