Feeling the Pinch: The Unseen Impact of the Cost of Living Crisis
As I sit down to write this blog post, the weight of the cost of living crisis in the United Kingdom feels heavier than ever. The struggle to make ends meet, put food on the table, and keep a roof over our heads has become increasingly challenging for families and individuals across the country. The unseen impact of this crisis is far-reaching and devastating, affecting the most vulnerable members of our society in ways that are often overlooked. In this post, I will delve into the harsh reality of living through this crisis, sharing my thoughts and experiences on the matter.

Dogs are the Best
Whilst this is about my gorgeous, crazy, wonderful, naughty, cheeky, silly dog, this post does come with a trigger warning. I won’t be going into detail at all, but there will be some mention of self-h@rm and depression. So please, feel free to skip this post if you need to.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Top Story - January 2022.
It’s hard to believe that The Rocky Horror Picture Show wasn’t an instant hit, when it was first released in cinemas in 1975. Considering its cult classic status now, it wasn’t met with a great response initially. The film was certainly ahead of its time. What with aliens cross-dressing, pre-marital sex, gay relationships, and a man in fishnets, who has made everyone question their sexuality at some point.

Just Be F@ck!ng Nice!
There’s a reason that this has been in my bio on here for ages… because we all need to be reminded of it sometimes. I can’t fathom why, in the twenty-first century, we still need to be reminded about being nice. Why people are still treated differently because of the colour of their skin, their religion, their sexual orientation, their gender, disabilities, etc. We’re all human at the end of the day, just trying to live the best life we can, within the constraints of our social, political and economic restraints. I was lucky enough to grow up with a really diverse group of friends. One of my oldest friends, who I’ve been friends with since I was four, is a trans male. I love him to bits. Just as much as I love my Sikh best friend. As a cis-gendered, heterosexual, white female, I am so thankful to be surrounded by different cultures, because I cannot imagine how boring it must be to live within the constraints of one fixed ‘ideology’.

The Attic
The room was dark, apart from a small amount of moonlight peeping through a tiny open space in the curtains. It lit up the back wall. The shadows of the branches from the trees outside danced a little. Ben couldn’t sleep. It was his birthday in a few days and the excitement was all too much. Being six is very important business. It also meant that he was going to be the oldest in his class, and that carried a lot of responsibility.

Why I Will Not Be Accepting Pledges on Vocal
Hello, world of Vocal. I hope you’re all well and are keeping safe during these weird times. I just wanted to touch base and write a little post about Vocal’s new feature: Pledges. And why I will not be partaking in it, or ever accepting pledges from the people who read my work.

There's Something About Uncle Roger
‘Hallo, Niece and Nephew.’ You can just hear that sentence as you read it. And, if you’re anything like me, it’ll bring a smile to your face. The character of Uncle Roger has to be one of the highlights of the past few years. With the bad, comes the good. Well, Covid has been pretty fucking bad, but Uncle Roger has brought a lot of light to these dark times. ‘Haiyaa’ has almost become like medicine to me recently.

I Never Want to go to Sleep Again
My son woke me up this afternoon, all fluttery. He was terrified. Jess has never really had bad dreams. He has a comfortable life. Shelter, all the food he could wish for, and Farmer Michael always makes sure not to disturb us. In fact, when Jeff came along, Farmer Michael always bought us food and made sure we were warm and well looked after.
