Between Dreams and Reality
“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” Carl Jung I often find myself lost in between the circadian rhythm of sleep and wakefulness. As someone accustomed to the rhythmic routine of sleep and dreams, I’ve often found myself questioning the nature of our conscious experiences. I find myself questioning the very essence of reality, often asking myself, “How do I know I’m awake? How do I know I’m not dreaming right now?”

The Enlightening. Content Warning.
Where am I? Why am I here? The initial self-interrogation during my reoccurring nightmare. There are only two alternatives in the incapacious pathway, pitch black behind me, no expectancy of reaching any answers going that direction, envisioning the darkness to be boundless, a glimmer of light to the front intrigue's investigation as it has on countless occasions. Each time I pray, it will end differently. The light must be the route out, the thoughts of the naïve version of my former self. In actuality, it was a way in. As I stride towards the assumed departure of the corridor, I try to touch the walls to the side, but my hands do not grip, or the wall moves away; I'm not sure...

It's no surprise that writers often give superheroes and magical beings the power of telepathy. Just think about all the insights you could gain if you could hear someone's thoughts! But not everyone has that inner monologue or inner speech. And even those who do, don't always talk in their heads all the time. Inner speech could teach us a lot about brain development and speech patterns, but research in this area is just beginning.
