Until He Returns

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

Patiently waiting to see him again.

I’ve learned not to ask when he’d be back.

He needs his space.

I understand.

But I just wish I could be alone,

And still be with my man.

Does that make sense?

Feel his warmth and the crease in his chest.

While still able to take a break and rest

From sharing my energy…

I love him but I still need to recharge

My social battery.

Please don’t go too far or be gone too long.

I’ll overthink and sing sad songs.

I wanna be in your arms all day long.

And simultaneously be in solitude—

Meditating and listening to classical music.

I may sound crazy but I need my space too.

But I can’t live without you…

This is me and my husband. I can't be away from him, and I don't like being away from him, but we also have separate hobbies, so it's hard. I wanted the yearning for love and hope in this poem.

Loved it! It's so honest but also you paint a picture with emotions and it feels like it's happening.

This is great! I love, like RM said, the opposing feelings. Beautifully penned, ripe with emotion, longing and sadness, but understanding too! Such a wonderful poem!

  • This is powerfully moving, describing two opposing feelings which are joined as one. I especially loved this part: “I wanna be in your arms all day long. And simultaneously be in solitude—“ Well done!
