Christmas Evening

After the Rush

Christmas Evening:

Come we are at last to the end of Christmas Day

Food mostly eaten, family & friends gone away

Gifts stacked in corners of each and every room

Logan and his airplane have ceased to play Zoom

Twinkling tree still sheds soft red, green, and blue

Lights the couch where I finally relax with you

Fridge full of leftover ham, potatoes, and pies

We've eaten too much while telling ourselves lies

Tomorrow we pack away decorations and trim

Avoiding bathroom scale knowing we aren't slim

Looking forward to New Years one week hence

Our planet having come full circle one year since

Reflecting now on all this year we've said and done

The times we've all shared - Good, bad, and fun

Old friends still here, new ones to join the show

A new granddaughter we are just getting to know

Money we've spent and money we've earned

Days at the beach when we really got burned

Old jobs replaced with new and hopefully better

A new dog in the house that ain't no Setter

Despite the continuous roar of my family zoo

Glad indeed I am to have shared it all with you
