Awaken, little one; open your eyes
Breathe deep for your first and stifle your cries
Cling to your mother before you begin
Denial is her original sin
Each day will you grow, each day will you learn
Fairness is something labour cannot earn
Grateful are those leading lives built on sand
Happily fed, left unbitten the hand
Insist, child of man, on leading with light
Justice is blind to so many a plight
Kings please themselves, yet they’ll make you obey
Like so many others, voice without say
Make sure you are heard, be sure that they know
Now is the moment they’ll reap what they sow
Order’s a construct for holding in place
Proud only of sweat that clings to their face
Quixotic customs drive most to despair
Rites written large that take most unawares
Somnambulists, all, that do as they’re told
Tethered to the ground yet scared to grow old
Undo the chains, child, that only you see
Vexed masses consumed by conspiracy
Weak though they feel, you must lead them astray
Xanadu beckons, so show them the way
Yours is a story unlike the others
Zenith of man, a boy amongst brothers

Such a depth of content in an Abecedarian poem… great job. “ Insist, child of man, on leading with light Justice is blind to so many a plight”. So true. My first Abecedarian attempt is my typical ‘light’ style… 26 letters & lines was a huge effort for me… I lost ‘D’ at one stage. I think you should write more Abecedarian poems!
This is a wonderful Abecedarian poem JP. Did you enter it in the challenge? You absolutely should!
