Do not speak to me of birds and bees,

For there's no value found in life,

I see not woods for burning trees.

*

I walk among you as disease,

A tumour untouched by the knife,

Do not speak to me of birds and bees.

*

My poisons powered by decrees,

With foul and festering half-life,

I see not woods for burning trees.

*

I see you begging, on your knees,

While gluttons gorge on smoking strife,

Do not speak to me of birds and bees.

*

And as my debris chokes the seas,

As pestilence and pain run rife,

I see not woods for burning trees.

*

The heat is rising by degrees,

But profit comes 'fore child and wife.

Do not speak to me of birds and bees,

I see not woods for burning trees.

Powerful and haunting imagery. This piece starkly captures the destructive impact of human greed and environmental neglect. Well done!
