Be Yourself

Thoughts can whisper, yet be so loud.

Without social media, do you make

a sound?

Joy is more than what’s seen on screens.

Some things are meant to

purposely deceive.

Comparing yourself makes you

wanna scream.

People appear to be living their best life.

Some friends may even be a wife.

You wonder what you’re doing wrong.

Why your life seems to be one sad song…

Your reflection disgusts you, so you

send hate online.

Wishing your stars could just align

Meanwhile, the wife you admire is

getting abused.

Her husband is jealous of all of those dudes.

These men are pure strangers.

But, each like starts a fight.

She wants to delete her page, but she

simply cannot.

Her husband insists that she cover

those knots.

Behind the camera, “Honey, you missed

a spot.”

Blames it on his Dad. It’s just what

he was taught.

Social media is only what others

want to share.

So live your truth cause someone else’s

is more than you could bear.

Wow, this is so insightful and true. I'll be sure to think of this poem next time I fall into the trap of comparing myself because of social media

  • I love the opening play on "if a tree falls in the forest but no one is around does it make a sound." A line that really resonated with me was "Some friends may even be a wife." Oh how I've felt this so during my time on this earth. Never realized I wasn't Subscribed to you...problem fixed!

Those first two lines were really good. Even if your poem hadn’t continued, that would have been impactful to me.

  • To walk a mile in another's shoes..., is one way to find out just how tough life can be.

So much truth here, RP and as always, you expressed it beautifully!

This is great work and so truthful. People hide behind their screen portraying the lives they wish they had while bullying the ones succeeding. It's sad.

I love this and there is so much truth to this! I often think about that, we really never have any idea what’s going on in peoples lives, nor do they know what’s going on in ours. I hope more people realize this, use this type of thinking, pictures only tell flashes of a story. Well done with this! Amazingly described!
