My house sits close to the entrance of a huge natural reserve area. Every day, I take a short walk around a small pond five minutes from my house, if the weather permits. Don’t underestimate how many creatures the pond has been called home to — bass, catfish, turtles, and sea snakes to name just a few.

The total solar eclipse that occurred on Apr 8 this year has captured an enormous amount of attention in North America. Many major cities suffered from terrible traffic that day as crowds of observers flocked in for the last chance to observe a total eclipse in the next 20 years. My family was among such crowds and had spent five hours driving home after the event.

It is finally dawn. Hostasia hasn’t slept much. She tries hard to fight the chill temperature, but her body won’t stop shaking. Her joints are all stiff and swollen, and her wound from the red fox bite has stopped bleeding but is making an awful stink.
