Deborah Robinson
Bio
I'm new to the 'writing for real' scene. Previously, I've kept my poetry and writing under wraps in a fancy notebook, but now I've decided to give it a proper go!
I hope you enjoy my work.
Thanks, Deborah.

What I Wish I'd Known When I started Selling my Artwork Online 5 years ago.
I decided to take a big risk and started selling handmade cards and some bits of jewellery on Esty almost five years ago, after two good friends encouraged me to do it. I had never even heard of Etsy (I'm sorry, what-sy?), and up until then I had always been able to draw and make some nice cards, but really, sell them?? For real? Maybe...

Dandelion Seeds.
May has been a super month for dandelions. Lots of councils, gardeners (including me) and just people in general are realising how important the bright yellow wildflower is for emerging queen bees and other insects. Wildlife charities are encouraging 'No mow May', and asking people to leave their grass, and see what wildflowers come through. When I do cut my grass, I now mow around the dandelions, and I certainly never use any nasty poisons on 'weeds'. Any I don't want, say on the driveway, I just pull up by hand.

The Moon
Lockdown gave me chance, and the inclination, if I'm honest, to really look at our night sky. This May has been disappointing; but last May, over lockdown, I spent up to an hour each night simply sitting on a deckchair, looking up to the clear night sky. For the first time in my life, I saw shooting stars, satellites, and I also really began to appreciate the mysterious beauty of our moon.

Speedy Couch Potato.
So, the time came for a dog. There's no such thing as 'the right time', only the time when your heart feels it needs a dog to snuggle in there and make you a better version of yourself. I was working from home, and I had visions of me and the dog having quality, quiet (important for me!) time together. We wanted to rescue, and we'd been to a couple of rescue centres, but nothing fell into place. It wasn't to be just yet.

I am...
In this poem, I try to convey the colours I am 'made of'. Life has battered me a bit, it's true, but I am made unique by the people around me, who love me, by the things I care about, and by my perceptions. We are all wonderfully different. This poem uses colour to tell you about who I am.

The Conch Shell. Top Story - April 2021.
A beautiful conch shell sits high up on a bookshelf in our hall. It has been kept up there to keep it safe from our daughter. It's precious and delicate, and although strong, I would hate to see any of its delicate whorls and peaks damaged. Recently, I began to look at it more closely, and I imagined the secrets it held, and the things the sea creature inside had seen over its long life. So, here is my poem,
