Thankgivin' in Da Bayou
I grew up in a small town in Southeast Texas called Bridge City. Like most teenagers, I went to parties and would sneak out of my friends’ houses with them. One night when I was 17, I met a guy named Colin. Our friends tried to get us to talk but I wasn’t really interested.

Power
March 1, 2024 was referred to as “the day the music died.” All radio stations and television channels stopped playing regular programming and switched to Nuclear News around the clock. We had entered a second cold war in the US, only this time it was turned into worldwide entertainment. Donald Trump had been re-elected. Of course, this angered Kim Jong-un, who declared there would be no talk of a button or whose worked better. He stared directly into Trump’s eyes at a lunch he had invited him to while his translator explained North Korea would not be made to look like a fool again. They were leaders of powerful nations and needed to act like it. Donald Trump, with the whole world watching, leaned in and whispered, “I rigged an election to lead the greatest nation on Earth for a second term. I’ll do whatever the hell I want.” He hadn’t realized he was being recorded.

KK's Corner
Lake Charles, Louisiana is generally a quiet town. I've lived here since 2009. People come here to gamble at our casinos and sometimes to gawk at the damage. We have had our fair share of bad luck recently with two major hurricanes, a deadly freeze, and a citywide flood within a year. If you say you lost your home in the flood you'll likely be asked, "Which one?" But no bad luck compares to The Murders. You see, we have murders here every now and then just like any other town. In Lake Charles though, if you mention The Murders you don't need to go into any further detail, because everyone knows you're talking about the bone-chilling case of KK’s Corner.

Weathered
I ran inside with mascara and eyeliner smeared down my face. “Get in the basement!” I yelled to Edgar, my husband of 30 years. He looked confused as he began to ask what was wrong. “Edgar, there’s no time. Get in the basement or you will die!” Edgar considered my words for a moment before deciding to listen to me. I don’t think I’d ever seen him run before, but he was running now.

The Colonial Pipeline Hack Timeline and How Ransom Funds were Seized
The Colonial Pipeline Hack On May 7, 2021 Colonial Pipeline Company had its systems hacked. Essentially, they went offline, waited for an arguably long time to contact federal agencies, and released a public statement that they were the victims of ransomware by bad actors from Darkside (members of a cybercriminal group). Ransomware is when a company’s digital property is encrypted (made unreadable) until a monetary demand is met. BTC (Bitcoin) is a cryptocurrency, or digital currency. It’s very popular with ransomware attacks because it can be very difficult to trace. Over the next two days they slowly began searching the nearby grounds and turning on the smaller systems. By Wednesday May 12, 2021 Colonial Pipeline Company was back up and running with pipeline ops.

Prioritizing Yourself When You Suffer From Extreme Anxiety
The Last Slice I was never the person who took the last of something for myself, even if it was there for everyone. If a friend needed a favor, no matter how inconvenient it made my life, I was there. If someone mentioned they "had to do (anything)" and sounded upset about it, I jumped in to do it for them. When something needed to be done at work and nobody else wanted to do it, I'd volunteer no matter how much I had on my plate.

My Experience Coming Out
All the things she said - t.A.T.u. In sixth grade I met a girl that set my heart on fire. We were friends, then best friends, then her words never left my head. I was confused and I felt things that weren't in line with what I thought my values were. I stayed up all night wondering what to do. In true sixth grade fashion, I wrote a note. Half of it was pure apology because I had no clue how she'd react. The other had my feelings written more deeply than I could have said out loud. All I could do when I handed it to her was beg that she read it later and not to respond if she didn't feel the same.

Feeding America with Leftovers
This article was difficult to write. Seeing these numbers made me feel everything from anger, to sadness, to incredulity. The solution to funding the United States’ hunger problem can be solved for years with the help of just ten people, yet we allow it to continue.

The Problem with most Memorial Day Sales
Before I begin, I'd like to point out that these opinions are solely my own based on my experience as a family member and friend of several veterans who had strong feelings about Memorial Day sales. Though these are the opinions of some who have now passed, I am not a veteran and cannot speak for any but those who have provided their opinions directly to me. If you are a veteran and have an opinion about this article, I would love to hear your thoughts as they are more relevant than my own. Please feel free to send them to brittanynunezwritings.com.

Would you trust a transgender woman in the bathroom with your daughter?
You know the meme. The transgender woman with hair and makeup askew, captioned to ask if we would trust "him" with our children in a public restroom. It's meant to refer to the trans community as predatory people who endanger children wherever they go. It's meant to place fear and doubt on the good intentions of any trans individuals. It wants you to feel like a bad parent if you support trans rights. It's meant to portray transgender women as unkempt and 'manly.'
