CFL Week 2 Recap: Trouble in Winnipeg?
Winnipeg has always been an interesting pro sports city. It's located smack dab in the middle of the country, it's basically Canada's equivalent of Chicago. Much like Chicago and St. Louis, Winnipeg's geographical sports alignment is quite fluid. When I started watching the CFL, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were in the East Division because there were eight teams in the league at the time. Once the Ottawa Redblacks debuted, the Bombers moved to the West Division, because there were (once again) three Ontario franchises in the league.

Stanley Cup Final Game Five: Conn(or) McSmythe?
One night after the Larry O'Brien trophy was awarded to the NBA Champion Boston Celtics, the Stanley Cup was in Sunrise, Florida for Game Five of the Stanley Cup Final. The Florida Panthers' plans to complete a four-game sweep were thwarted by an onslaught of Edmonton Oilers goals--eight of them, to be exact. Only three teams forced Game Six of the Cup Final after falling behind 3-0. Would the Edmonton Oilers become the fourth?

Earth News Update: June 18, 2024. Content Warning.
Over the past few weeks, the sun has exhibited heightened activity, with a specific focus on the sunspot region AR3712. This region has grown significantly, expanding from an area equivalent to one Earth to over five Earths in size. Sunspot AR3712 has been responsible for the majority of the solar flares observed recently. In the past 24 hours alone, 21 C-class flares were recorded, most of which originated from AR3712. This heightened solar activity, while primarily involving lower-level flares, holds potential for more significant events given the region's magnetic complexity.

The Dream of Limitless Leaps
Darkness enveloped me, swallowing all light. Only the faint sound of my own ragged breaths echoed in the endless space. I stood precariously on the edge of a towering wall, stretching far above my sight, perhaps a meter and seventy centimeters high. The shadows hid everything below, leaving me blind to the depth or danger that lurked beyond the black veil.

Finals Game Five: 18 and Golden
I have seen a number of playoff series in the NBA, NHL, and MLB where a team is up 3-0 with a chance to sweep. Sometimes, the sweep's completed, but there have been moments where the team down 3-0 wins Game Four. Now, when that happens, it's the same sentiment: "Well, at least they didn't get swept." You can always tell whether or not Game Four serves as that lone win in the series or not. A few times, said team does win Game Five. In rare moments, they actually make it to Game Seven. And as we all know, there have only been five overall moments between the leagues where a team actually won four straight to win the series after losing the first three games.

Somers Softball Runs Ends in the Section Finals vs Harrison
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons below Harrison Slideshow After beating Brewster and Clarkstown North in the first two rounds of the sectionals, the Tuskers bought first seeded Clarkstown South in the semis. The buyer didn’t need to beware, though, and a 6-4 victory put the glass slipper on these Somers girls. But unfortunately, the ceiling proved just a little too high on May 25 at North Rockland High School, and second place would have to do.

The Florida Panthers were all set to complete the sweep and capture the Cup for the first time in their franchise history. They shut down the Oilers in the first two games, and Game Three was a hard fought battle won by the Panthers. All signs pointed to the Panthers taking Lord Stanley back to the Sunshine State.

Finals Game Four: Brooms Broken
A strange rarity hit the sports world entering Game Four of this year's NBA Finals: both the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals stood at 3-0. The last time we saw a sweep in the Stanley Cup Final was 1998. The last time we saw a sweep in the NBA Finals was 2018, much more recent than the NHL. The last time we saw sweeps in both in the same year, you have to go all the way back to 1995. That year, the Houston Rockets swept the Orlando Magic to repeat as NBA Champions, and the New Jersey Devils swept the Detroit Red Wings to win their very first Stanley Cup.
