Pride Month
Sunsetting Pride 2024
Happy Pride! As Pride Month 2024 begins to sunset, I want to congratulate every individual who has become brave enough to take control of their life and live as their authentic, beautiful self. This is a month when it highlights those accomplishments. From acceptance within families and friends to acknowledgement in the political arena. Starting with Stonewall (and events prior) leading to the Supreme court ruling for same-sex marriages. We are here, we are queer, and we should never live in fear.

A Letter to the Baby Queers
To All Whom It May Concern (even if you don't know it yet), I must begin with my deepest apologies. I'm sorry that for all our struggles and gains over the past decades, true acceptance still seems so far away. Gay marriage is legal, but disabled Queers can't take advantage of that without losing the benefits that keep them alive. Pronouns and Gender-Affirming care is becoming more common, but trans-athletes experience pushback and no politicians seem willing to look for a third option.

A letter to our queer youth
My Dear Queer Youth, It has been a long time since I could be described as young by anyone born after the Civil Rights Act was passed. My own parents were their early teens when that law was passed in the United States, making discrimination on the basis of race, religion, sex or skin colour illegal. I would be the same age as they were then before apartheid was ended in South Africa, and my own son was four years old when the first same sex marriage contracts were signed in the UK. We have come a long way, in three generations, and pockets of backwards slippage notwithstanding, I believe we continue to move past tolerance of difference and towards celebration of humanity.

Through Time and Life, There will Always be Songs that Scream Pride
One thing about the LGBTQ+ community, they're able to bring pride to many different art forms; may it be through painting, literature, cinema, or even music. Songs have been a way for queer people to express themselves and their feelings, which is why music in itself is such a big part of their wide and diverse culture; they are able to play and celebrate the lyrics that reflect their own identities.

"The Paradox of Pride: Seeking Acceptance Without Celebration". Content Warning.
I've been openly gay since birth, yet I've never attended a pride parade. I think the only reason I'd go is to meet attractive people, but from what I've seen online, Pride isn't where they go. During Pride month, there's a push to take pride in something you didn't choose. Being told to be proud of being gay feels like being told to be proud of having brown hair or two hands. These aren't things I chose; I just happened to be born this way.

The Evolution of LGBT Portrayal in TV and Film. Top Story - June 2024.
Happy Pride Month, all! I love Pride Month and everything that comes with it; the celebration, the festivities, the prestige. Pride Month is the ultimate beacon of positivity. Now sadly, there are a bunch of people in society who aren't really crazy about Pride Month and have their things to say against it. To those people, I'll only say this. There's a special place reserved for people who are against Pride Month. I'm too much of a gentleman to say it here, but I'll give a few hints: it rhymes with "bell," and I'm not talking about the city in Michigan.
