What Once Was

An Original Poem

By Jason APublished about a month ago 1 min read

Tattered and torn

Not in its threads

But in its core

A shadow of what once was

-----

That shining city

Atop high ground

Now dim and dark

Like ruins of old

-----

"We" did this

But no not I, nor mine

"They" did this

In the dark of night

-----

And now they revel

In there twisted Utopia

Their sickened paradise

Of ill and pain

-----

Can we, the people

Ever recover?

Or is our essence

Gone for all time?

-----

I have to hold out hope

My very spirit has no choice

But it's getting harder and harder

Not to be consumed

-----

For great deception and great lies

Abuses of power and ego highs

Are hard to overcome

When they attack everyone
