FUN FACT

I can read your non-verbal signals,

But bitter experience taught me:

We cannot keep a non-verbal word.

I prefer that you spell it all out for me

So I know that you at least understand

The word you may choose to break,

So that if you do

I can walk away

Without wondering

If it was just a misunderstanding.

The Golden Fool

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!”

“I am.”

“Um… Okay, I guess… Do it differently?”

“Pfft! Haha. What?”

Wind It Up

A god who could easily destroy, manipulate, control every aspect of everything… but chooses rather to set things in motion and watch them go.

Those who possess strength yield it when they press it to the unworthy goal of accruing power. Those who yield power retain both their strength and their sense of humor.

The Reckoning

What’s that?

Sunken cost?

No, No, No.

The logical fallacy lies

In the mistaken belief

That we are ever truly lost.

***** * *****

FORCE

The force of will required to make an actual choice is so great that the weak-willed must convince themselves that no such choice is possible. However:

“There were all kinds of things of which I was afraid at first, but by acting as if I was not afraid I gradually ceased to be afraid. Most men can have the same experience, if they choose.” -Teddy “Bear” Roosevelt

COLLISION?

The hive mind won’t save us

From the pecking order,

Nor will the pecking order

Save us from the self.

The primary reason we must be capable of keeping our thoughts to ourselves is so that we can change our own minds. If we can’t change our own minds of our own volition then we can’t really change at all.

The self becomes a determinant and a variable anywhere it asserts itself. An anchor point from which change radiates.

A sun!

What happens when suns collide?

Spinning Wheels

We put it out there so it doesn’t come back.

We put it out there so it will go its own way and we can move on too.

There are more ways to change one’s fortune than to spin the wheel.

Strength requites what power can only assimilate.

As long as we’re working on it… it’s working;

But no, it’s not a “good job”…

For those of us actually doing the work.

Beware!

Pursue not a good time

At the expense

Of a meaningful life!

“Get action; do things; be sane; don’t fritter away your time; create; act; take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action.”

-Teddy “Bear” Roosevelt

Rommentary:

In our modern society, big game hunting is likely a revolting concept to many, so if you are so predisposed, you may be a bit upset to discover the origins of the Teddy Bear, which the National Park Service did a nice little article on here.

For my part, I am not vegan, but do think it a waste to hunt just for sport. However, I also think it unquestionable that we are extinct as a species if we did not hunt as well as gather throughout the tumultuous years of our history.

We’ve come to view ol’ Teddy in a different light too, haven’t we? Was he just another imperialist or does he deserve some veneration for being, what was, during his time, a progressive leader?

History is replete with such troubling questions, is it not?

However, I will always take it as a mark in Teddy’s favor that he wasn’t so vain as to take down an opponent tied to a tree, though I doubt he could have won in a hand-to-hand, fair bear fight!

Then again… it could have been a publicity stunt, eh?

So many troubling questions… but I’ll tell you what, dear reader: Teddy was right about overcoming fear and getting action. It’s the only way to stay sane, and I will freely admit that it applies as much to women as men, so don’t get your panties in a bunch about the gender-specific quote!

For me, getting action means creating, as I am doing write now (pun intended)!

But maybe it means something different for you, and that’s okay. Just so long as you don’t do it at another’s expense. For example, maybe instead of shooting some poor, innocent bear minding its own business, stitch together a Teddy Bear of your own, or get with that person you love most and give ‘em a bear hug.

Whatever we choose to do, if we push through our fear and just do it, we will eventually do it well.

I think I do "fritter" out of fear. But, on another note, I knew a veterinarian, who was also a mentor of mine of sorts, who was also a taxidermist. He took a trip to Africa to hunt large game to ship back to the US to taxiderm (?), including a Zebra - I never could quite understand how the nature of a man to become a veterinarian could also justify and enjoy hunting for sport. I always felt at odds about it in my mind - I can't make it make sense - anyway, a complete tangent from your writing - it just brought up the memory of that.

  • "The primary reason we must be capable of keeping our thoughts to ourselves is so that we can change our own minds. If we can’t change our own minds of our own volition then we can’t really change at all." Whoaaaa, that was so deep! The Golden Fool made me laugh so much! Loved all your profound poems!
