Up at Dawn

An Anthem

Up at Dawn

I know the right routine by now.

Wake up, open up the blinds

Let the morning light pour in

And wash away what’s left behind

Lost and found: I look around

At all the relics from the storm–

Every token, some half-broken

Memories that kept me warm

Breathing deep, I take a sip.

My fear is coffee on my lips

Whetting me for something new

Clearing away what I outgrew

I'm entering my goddess era

And I know I should be scared of

All that held me back before

But I can't stay here anymore

I know the way to clean my soul

An advocate for morning’s balm–

I’m taking back what darkness stole.

That’s why you’ll find me

Up at dawn

Oh Joelle, this is so lovely. Coming back from a kind of sabbatical from myself, this poem is like an ocean washing over my soul. Like Andreas I like the washing away that which is now behind. Blessings young one, you have a heart of gold. Congrats for TS.

This poem is beautiful, almost song-like. The last stanza is so powerful as well! Brilliant work!

  • I'm taking back what darkness stole! That line was so powerful!

  • It is the very best part of the day, & a great time to begin anew.

Isn't that the best time of the morning, just you, the lovely morning, coffee, the fresh air blowing in the window and a new prayer upon the breeze. The day beckons, go forth and have a wonderful rest of the day.
