I went to an event alone today,
Which seems to be my newly formed reality,
There's nothing wrong with it,
I am kind of used to it,
But I wish I found a place where I fit,
My friends that are locked in by history,
No longer have the same interests as me,
I still love them dearly,
But they do not want to experience the same world I see,
I took a selfie with some pride flags today,
To commemorate,
That I was there,
But to compare,
Taking a selfie in the city that is my home,
It makes me feel all that more alone,
I solo traveled the world recently,
Being alone feels like a part of me,
Although taking a selfie over there,
Felt like a privilege I wanted to share,
I also had times of being lonely,
But I was never short on what to see,
And I was never somewhere long enough to feel that empty,
Walking back to my car I passed a house today,
Where I could hear a family play,
Their competitive triumphs filled their driveway,
I found myself almost knocking on their door, asking to stay,
But instead, I walked away,
I know this is the place I want to be my home,
I love the life I am building out here on my own,
But I deeply crave the community of being understood and known,
Because without it, I find myself doing everything alone.
