From my bed, I watch you pack.
I watch your entire life fold itself into your suitcase
Together with your clothing and shoes.
I forget suitcases can mean vacation
because now it’s screaming goodbye.
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
*
I dare to look at your empty shelves.
They suddenly look so wide.
I dare to look at your face
to see if your fighting tears
like I am,
But they're empty.
I promise myself you aren't thinking
Because I promise, inside your breaking.
It must be.
We shared those walls since we were born.
My life grew up on the other side of the closet.
My shoes shared secrets with yours each night,
and my shirts rested on yours all through the day.
It can't be.
*
A neat zip slices the air.
There's no way back.
I watch your fingers curl around the handles.
I watch you kick the suitcase to a standing position with your kneecaps.
The wheels roll across the floor we spent our youth dancing on,
Gliding over cracks that formed over the years.
I can’t believe those wheels now carry a life your taking with you-
A life we shared on the opposite sides of the closet-
the closet that now stands half empty.
Whispering to our separated shirts and shoes, "goodbye."
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

heart touching poem.. good job
Well-wrought! I got the sense this was about a sibling?
The emotion is felt thickly and clearly. Beautiful job!
