Get in Line

Our own worst enemy

Get in line; we have a society to run

And if you break with expectations, you are nothing more than a pest in need of being squashed

Society must ban together through ignorance and ensure that your blatant nonconformity cease no matter the implications of silencing a voice

Without choice humans act to keep the present as similar to the past in an effort to predict the future

And one of the most spectacular of tricks is the dissonance resolved when an individual is found between their own interests and carrying out the will of society

Society is what it is because we refuse to contend with anything different and the indifference exchanged for contentment is contemptible

Able is not merely the opposite of disable they're both a label that lines the fable we tell ourselves because we are incapable of action

When will we understand that the plan of humanity is not a blueprint to be followed – and for some it's a hard pill to swallow, but for those who can't keep it here's a secret:

There is and always will be more than one way to be a human and the more ways we discover the better off the world will be

Even the blind can see that oppression leads to conflict and frustration is inextricably connected to aggression and still the societal armies march on

Be warned – its members found in the house next to you or in front of you in your own your living room holding on desperately to the phrase "that's the way it's done"

We won't run – we can't bend because "That's the way it's always been" is the most dangerous web you can spin through modern society

Four simple words and two contractions yield the power to raise factions, fuel hatred, demand discrimination, legal retaliation, fear-driven consternation and murder

And for. For what? Because we refuse the mandate to get in line and strive to coordinate a path that works for all those who currently inhabit the earth

It starts at birth – we are shown our line and followed with a constant re-mind to get in line without regret, but just rewind to find the real secret:

It's a line that leads a death march for all who join aside from those who lead it.

Author Note: This is a 100% human writing. I do embrace the use of GenAI in my writing practice and will always indicate what role, if any, GAI played in my writings. This is a poem I wrote the same day as my recent Top Story 'The World is More than You Know'. It was just over 10 months into Trump's appointment as President, and I honestly feared the worst for most of the people I knew. I believe it can be felt in this and 'The World' poem. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I can definitely see the patterns in this! It would work brilliantly spoken. You should record it! ❤️ (Just suggesting—I’m not bossy 😂)

  • There's just so much truth to what you've said here. People need to stop being blind.
