Doctor Time

The Fates of Travelling Time

By VJHDPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 2 min read
The persistence of memory by Salvador Dali

Have you ever wished

to turn back the clock?

Defy what transpired

to change what it is.

~

We watch life unfold

like fate on a needle.

Can we turn the hands

backward a moment or two?

~

Missed opportunities

An untimely space

A loss, or a wish to get

Back what we lost.

~

A clock is mechanical

Be wrong or be right

It can go backwards

Or slowly or faster or stop.

~

If switched off and then on

It cannot repair its own time

We must manually enter

To correct the errors it made.

~

If we set an 18th century clock

to tell our time for present,

would it replay the past

or tell our time like sand?

~

Did Superman have it right

to fly around the world ?

To use speed super fast

To reverse his own ache.

~

If I flew backwards real fast

to reverse the globes spin

would we cease to exist

or would the time be reset?

~

Can we turn the hands of a clock

and give a persons day back?

Can we let them re-live

and change what was done?

~

Can they see what is caused

when they change what it was?

can they argue with fate?

Would it change for the better?

~

Would the change set a loop

that perpetually we live,

or reset the fate as it

Always once was?

~

Our aches and our joys

it’s a part of our lives,

It’s a step in the way

of the choices they make.

~

A piece of our fate

we cannot deny

If time were reversed

would history repeat?

~

Everything happens for a

reason people say and yet

some forget the consequence

is always in the way.

~

If you set back the clock

to change what is done -

you must hold the knowledge

of what was before.

~

For how else would you stop

the repeat of history that was?

But let’s say we try and

you find the way back?

~

Everyone’s heart is set

to beat forwards,

you will always remember

and never forget.

~

If you find a way to turn

back the clock,

can you live out your time

forever knowing your true fate?

A piece I wrote many years ago as a short story but have now re-vamped into a poem.

I spent a lot of time arguing back and forth with my Brother on the rules and loopholes of time travel over the years, this was the one rule of time travel we always agreed on. You can’t change the past without always knowing what really happened; furthermore changing the past would either bring about an infinite time loop to sustain the paradox or the time would simply snap back in place the way it always was!

What I wouldn’t give to have another day of arguing with him on this subject. 💔

Happy arguing Time Travellers 🤪

Thanks for reading 🕊️
