Dear Past self,

It's time to let those parts of yourself go,

Stop holding onto everything you know,

Everything you have been through,

To have room,

To let in something new,

For the next person who you could love,

Find out if they are enough,

Without the ghosts of your past,

You are not bonded by their cast,

They have shown you the qualities you want,

But please don't get lost,

In the conclusions from your other relationships,

Comparing and manipulating as if your still within it,

They may have ran away with a piece of you heart,

But they are no longer a part of you,

You are the one holding on,

To the memories as if they're not gone,

As if the trauma remains bounded to your future,

As if you're holding on to them like a comfort creature,

An experience that keeps you from the dark,

Someone that had accepted you for who you are,

Something to feel known,

Almost safe,

But they are no longer there, and there's no reason to be afraid,

To erase them,

They're names no longer need to stay in present tense in your mind,

Remember, they were just a moment in time,

That your brain likes to bring them back up,

Even if there is no more love,

He is a different person, not them,

He doesn't need to know every aspect of the last three,

Just the person you want to be,

You need to let go of them,

Let go of the space you created,

Let go of the past of who you dated,

And the place they remain in your head,

They no longer hold any value in your life,

Just someone who wasn't right,

Something of the past that has given a new light,

To find,

The qualities you loved and hated about them,

In a different person,

Reclaim the parts, you felt were taken,

And dismiss the person they were never going to be,

Don't you see,

They were just part of the story line you are creating,

A means to the person you are today,

But not something that should continue to be in your way,

To finding your place.

Sincerely,

Your Future Self
