An Afternoon of Bliss

A Comfort Poem

By L. M. WilliamsPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Thunderstorms that rattle windows and light up the sky

Raindrops pound, racing down the pane /

Tea so hot the steam warms the tip of your nose

tingling over the ridges of taste buds on your tongue /

Fuzzy heavy blankets embracing you like hugs

cocooning you in a sarcophagus of warmth /

Books that transport you to another universe

to experience another's life and world

if only for a day, for this moment /

Grilled cheese sandwiches oozing layers

bright orange, pale yellow and white cheese pool

the perfect crunch when teeth sink into toasted bread /

The storm dulls to a lullaby /

Your stomach is satisfyingly full /

Eye lids drift shut, dreaming for this again tomorrow
