After you left…
I found the note in your jacket,
Reminding you to buy orange juice.
I found the nails on the windowsill,
You meant to screw that board back in.
I found the sheet music you compiled,
For the Christmas concert you played.
I found the jewellery on the night stand,
That didn’t fit your fingers anymore.
I found the bookmark in your novel,
You never did get to the final page.
I found your last will and testament,
In a drawer with all your photos of us.
I found your neatest handwriting,
Telling us how to divvy up your things.
I found the money you left in my account,
With the caption ‘closing time darling’.
I found your empty coffee mug outside,
Where you spent all your final days.
I found that my days seem noisier now,
That the world is without my Dad.
I found the wisdom you always had,
I think you left it behind for me.
