Coffee is a popular drink all over the world. When combined with different ingredients, coffee gives a very different and unique flavor. However, instead of just combining it with milk and sugar, you can add cinnamon powder and turmeric powder. When combined with these two nutritious spices, you are turning your cup of coffee into a "premium tonic" with many nutrients that are beneficial to your health.

Cinnamon

Just adding a pinch of cinnamon powder will make a huge difference in the taste of your coffee. American nutritionist Lisa Hayim has shown that this combination not only improves the taste but also has health benefits.

Cinnamon is known to be a natural fat burner, speeding up metabolism, burning excess calories, thereby significantly reducing fat. Meanwhile, black coffee is proven to help support weight control, enhance physical activity and endurance. A 24-week study by Harvard Medical School showed that 4 cups of black coffee a day reduced fat by an average of 4%. So cinnamon coffee has the ability to promote weight loss more effectively.

A little cinnamon in a cup of coffee helps lower blood fat and strengthen the heart.

Cinnamon and coffee are both rich in antioxidants, protecting the body from damage caused by free radicals. Combining coffee with cinnamon powder will help double the dose of antioxidants, preventing colon cancer, liver cancer, etc.

According to a review published in the US National Library of Medicine, supplementing at least 1.5g or ¾ teaspoon per day can reduce triglyceride levels, total cholesterol, and harmful cholesterol in people with metabolic syndrome. Another review based on 13 studies showed similar effects of cinnamon on normal people, reducing the risk of heart disease and lowering blood pressure when used continuously for 8 weeks. So, a little cinnamon in a cup of coffee helps lower blood fat and strengthen the heart.

Turmeric powder

Turmeric powder is a spice widely used as a coloring and sweetener in cuisine. But not only stopping at those uses, turmeric combined with coffee brings positive signals to the user's body.

Research published in the American Journal of Nutrition and Intermediate Metabolism in 2018 found that turmeric can help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. Regularly drinking coffee with turmeric powder can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Curcumin in turmeric has anti-depressant properties, combined with caffeine that increases alertness and refreshment in coffee, creating a unique drink that effectively improves your mood.

In a separate study on turmeric published in the American Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, turmeric can reduce inflammation, including in rheumatoid arthritis. This makes turmeric a great addition to coffee, and it can help soothe the pain and redness associated with arthritis.

Turmeric coffee is a unique drink that helps you improve your mood effectively.

“Turmeric coffee is not a miracle cure , ” says nutritionist Shanta Retelny. “ It’s just a way to add turmeric to your diet so you can get some of its beneficial effects. However, it’s not a substitute for medication to treat health problems.”

This expert emphasizes that this type of coffee drinking will bring maximum benefits if you combine it with a diet full of vegetables, fruits, grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.

Additionally, turmeric coffee still contains caffeine. “Drinking too much coffee or any caffeinated beverage can cause irritability, lack of concentration, irregular heartbeat, and poor sleep. It’s best to drink any beverage containing caffeine in moderation,” adds nutritionist Shanta Retelny.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), most adults can safely consume 400 milligrams of caffeine—or the amount in about four 8-ounce cups of brewed coffee or six shots of espresso—a day. If you're pregnant, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends no more than 200 milligrams.
