Entering into the 22 Day Kundalini Challenge by KC Volard was a simple decision for me – which those of you who know me will not take lightly (I can be exceptionally indecisive). Educational experiences, of course, have always thrilled me, but I have rarely been one for in-depth physical exploits (I have only begun to love hiking in nature in recent years). This particular 22 day process is definitely a challenge, mainly due to my busy schedule.

I have often been one to begin a “habit” and not maintain it past the ten day period and then never return to the practice. Lately, I have been good about my few minutes per day of language practice on Duolingo (though I switch between about seven different languages, so maybe that doesn't count?) - and I have done well with this Kundalini Yoga challenge (I missed a few days here and there, but I returned to the practice and plan to continue until I have done 22 days of practice – I even marked it on my calendar).

Coming back into my body is so important for me, especially as a Generator aura type. If you don't know much about Human Design, don't worry about the details, but basically my aura type is meant to live in the moment by making decisions based on my gut response to environmental stimuli. It's difficult to figure out what my body is telling me when I'm up in my head, worrying about the details and everything coming up in the next day, week, month, and year.

As a human with Anxiety, remembering how to breathe and focus on the moment are essential skills. The breath-work and mantras involved in Kundalini Yoga, as well as the body movements and positions help me to return to the nerve-endings in my body, rather than the hallucinations in my head (no matter whether they are built on fear or the more positive desire).

People teaching shadow work often mention “integration”, which can also be used to talk about the affirmations and daily rituals or habits that we form in order to decondition from the badness that society has imposed upon us throughout our lives. For me, I have found that “integration” most often means working with my breathing when something negative comes up in my memories or mindset.

The simple and sweet language that KC Volard uses to explain each kriya in Kundalini is fantastic – especially for my already damaged mental health. She reminds us to be self-compassionate, on our minds and also on our bodies, which may not be used to strenuous workouts. Joining this smaller program of KC's has been a superb energetic relief to my body and mind.

The kriya she chose for this challenge (the challenge is to do the action every single day for 22 days in a row) has had a calming effect on my nervous system, allowing me to better listen to what my body tells me – when it comes to what food or beverages to consume (and when), as well as what turns to take while driving and what financial decisions will be best for my bank account and wallet in the long-run.

I have already joined a few of her other programs, let alone diving into all of the amazing free content with high value she gives out – so you'll definitely be getting a few of these blog posts from me within the year. Stay tuned for more fun and barely-filtered insights into my lifestyle!
