When Malcolm had first built the cabin, he had been following a feeling that it would be good to have somewhere other. He was grateful for listening to and acting on that gut murmur.

But he'd never envisioned that it would be his home.

Now, Malcolm looked around him at the wilderness and wondered how he had ever lived that other life. The trappings of ambition and arrogance had brought him to a place where he didn't think of the consequences of his research and his developments. It was all about the accolades. He had taken a path that he bitterly regretted.

Staring at the lake, morning coffee in hand, he cringed at his hubris.

Behind him, in the cabin, he could hear the clattering of kitchenware being moved. Breakfast was being prepared but experience had taught him that it would not be ready for an hour at least. He would get some progress done in his workshop, working on the project that would rectify his mess.

Whistling, pleased at the prospect, he headed off to a small building hidden in the trees. He had time, he thought.

*

His nose hurt. He lifted His hand to it and was surprised to see blood. Who had He hurt? He tried to shake off the fug that was clouding His thinking. And then He remembered and knew that it was His blood and that He had been hit. Hit? Him? He felt the fire of rage, fuelled by the indignity of having been thwarted.

Ella.

"I don't want to go with you!" Marshall protested as he leaned into The Master.

"I know you don't but I need to get to you to a doctor and have you checked over," The Master spoke gently, as he ushered Marshall out of the café. He wanted to say "and we need to do this quickly" but he didn't want to alert Marshall to anything which would be out of the ordinary.

"I don't think I can drive the Hummer."

The Master didn't like to tell him they weren't using it.

Malcolm felt like he was on the verge of a breakthrough.

And then the door burst open.

I was on the road (12-hour drive that made me feel like I’d been on a cruise) and am catching up with this story. Now my head is spinning even more. Very curious to see what Malcolm is up to.

I think I’m thrown off because my dad’s called Malcolm! Ha! This is great. Can’t wait to see how you pull this together!

  • So Malcolm may have something to do with attracting the disruptors in the first place? Do we have a Doctor Frankenstein in our midst? Well-wrought!

  • I'd like to know what Malcolm is working on and what exactly the whole mess is about. I'd also like to know where Jason and Ella are... Have they just dropped in on Malcolm?

But they've all got names beginning with M and I can't cope!

  • Hah… Marshall & Malcolm! I always have to concentrate extra hard if characters’ names start with the same letter & share other letters. I cope better with Z & X etc… just a comment for future sagas🤣. I hope the door caught Malcolm on the tender part of his nose!😵‍💫

The plot thickens. The people thicken. Life thickens!

  • Very intrigued to know where this twisting tale ends up!! Really compelling writing :)
