Maria shook the burning sage, chanting her way through the house. Room by room she beseeched to spirits to leave the family in peace.

Behind her, Aaron gasped and choked; allergies and asthma would do him more damage than any damned ghost, he thought. Unable to bear another minute, he bolted and ran from the house.

Coughing dramatically, he wheezed fresh air into his lungs, vowing to scold his wife for hiring this charlatan in the first place. Ghosts, indeed!

When the witch finally left, Aaron went to the door.

He couldn’t get inside. His wife never heard his calls
