I'll Be Your Summer If You Let Me

I saw you there,

I couldn’t feel you watching

You’re hard to miss

By the great oak?

You melted into the waving grass

The tiger in the jungle of your mind

No, the lost flower

Flowers are meant to grow in fields

Not on their own

What if I meant to be alone?

A plucked flower then

And you hope to do the picking?

I’m quite happy to admire you from here

Not from the oak?

The oak is for hiding in the shade

Seems at last, you were craving the sun

It seems to follow you

You can’t think me lost anymore

Not now I’ve found you

Here to put me in a vase?

Not if there’s a chance of growing roots

You want to be the roots that keep me here?

No, I want to be the roots that give you life

But I have thorns

Such smooth skin could never prickle

It does with the cold

I’ll be your Summer if you let me

    Beautifully worded.

  • Aw, that's so beautiful. Reminds me of my son and his wife. He'd been so ill and was afraid of marriage. His "girlfriend" told him she'd rather spend ONE minute as his wife than never have time with him at all. That was 30 years ago and she nursed him back to health and they couldn't be any happier. A beautiful reminder that love is miraculous.

What a breathtakingly beautiful and romantic poem this is!... The enchanting imagery of a tiger in the jungle, a flower in a field, and the sun's warmth personified create a vibrant, almost magical atmosphere...I liked your poem 😊
