Nobody arrived. Not a single soul!

“Mum, did you post the invitations?” Abigail asks through her broken sobs.

“Yes honey, I did but the horrid weather conditions we’ve been experiencing the last two weeks has dislocated train and road services, causing serious delays to the mail delivery. I’m terribly sorry sweetheart.

Why don’t we head down to the mall to your favourite arcade for your birthday? Just you and I.”

Abigail reluctantly agrees and soon discovers, much to her delight, that all her friends are at the arcade waiting for the guest of honour. Abigail’s smile blooms upon her face.

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘dislocate'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
