What if a Karen decided to buy your home? What would it look like?

Hi, my name is Karen. I have been noticing the progress you have been making on your home. Are you getting ready to sell your home?

Why, yes I am. But how do you know where I live? You and I worked together about five years ago, but we have not spoken since then and we really were not friends so how did you know where I live.

I have been riding by your house and noticed the progress that you all have been making and I would like to look at your house. Do you have a realtor?

No. I do not have a realtor.

Well, I have a realtor that I would like for you to use. Let me give you the name of my realtor. She will come in, look at your house, and recommend a selling price.

Okay, but I am not sure that I want to use your realtor. Look, I want to buy your home and I have the money to pay for it. You obviously need the money so just let me help you.

Against my better judgement, I listen to Karen and decide to use her realtor. Her realtor has a bubbly personality and could sell anything to anyone. I immediately liked her, but I had the feeling in the back of my mind that her main concern was doing what was best for her client. The realtor's name was Bella. Bella arranged for Karen to come in and see my house. I had to jump through several hoops to get my house ready to be presented to Karen. I had to do a deep clean and get my carpet professionally cleaned. I also washed and dry cleaned all the linens in the house, trying to give the house a fresh spring clean scent. When you have animals and you are showing your house to a Karen doing a white glove test, then you better prepare yourself! A Karen can find a needle in a haystack to say the least.

Finally, the day arrived when Bella, the realtor, Karen and her husband came through to see the house. I had such high hopes for the presentation of my home because I had worked so hard to get it ready. Not good! I overheard some of their conversation. Crazy cat lady was mentioned which was not a positive comment coming from a Karen. Usually a woman who is referred to as a crazy cat lady is old or over the hill, lonely, crazy, and has many cats. I am not that old, not lonely, and do not have that many cats. I am not a married woman, but I do have a career, a child, friends, and pets. I was not sure if I should laugh or cry at that particular moment. Was Karen being a Karen or was she stating that I was an old, pathetic, over the hill woman. I suppose in Karen's eyes I have long surpassed my Cinderella days and have now moved on to the character of the witch in the Snow White fairy tale.

After the showing of my home and the evaluation of my pitiful life, I do not know if I need re-evaluate my life. Did a Karen just make me look bad? Is she waiting to call my manager or hers?

I want and need to sell my home, but what do I need to do now. There has to be an answer out there. Something good has to come along.
