Did You Try Soda Crackers and Ginger? My Struggle with HG
"Did you try ginger to calm your stomach?" is a suggestion I received continuously throughout the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy. Ask any pregnant woman who has suffered through Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) this question and you may be met with a bit of attitude or maybe even a sarcastic comment or laughter. We aren't trying to be rude and we are truly grateful for the caring advice. It's just that our condition is so misunderstood by others that we feel like we are constantly and consistently trying to explain that it's "not just bad morning sickness." Furthermore, because it is so misunderstood by others, we are forced to always be on the defense and explaining how we aren't just being a baby. We don't need to just "suck it up" and accept it as a normal part of pregnancy. It's actually a very frightening condition that often requires medication and even sometimes hospitalization in order to see us through our pregnancies safely and successfully.

5 Steps to Finally Finishing Your Novel's First Draft
I have told myself since I was young that once day I would become an author of a book. I dreamed about the stories I would tell and the endless possibilities for writing. Throughout the years I have started novels on those rainy days when there is nothing to do. However, I would rarely come back to them. Life would always get in the way and soon I would lose interest. Despite this, my dream of being an author has been something that has never changed. I always come back to it as the only thing I could ever truly see myself doing. It is true, writing isn't always the easiest industry to break into. I eventually told myself that unless I actually complete writing pieces, I am never going to actually be a writer. Some time ago, I got inspiration for a novel and I knew that if I was going to become a writer, this would be the story I wanted to tell first. Recently after much self discipline, I was able to finally complete my first draft. Through the journey of writing a novel, I definitely learned some lessons along the way. Below are five things I learned when writing the first draft of my novel. If you are starting out this journey yourself, I hope what I learned will be helpful to you.

'Never Let Me Go': The Cloning of Humanity
The first time I had ever heard of the film Never Let Me Go it was sometime around 2011 or 2012. I was searching for something to watch on Netflix and I had come across it. I was once told by a friend that it was so incredibly sad that she had to stop watching it. I took on the challenge to see if I could get through it, despite it being described as disturbing and sad.

'The Crossing': A Comment on Our Present and a Prediction for Our Future
Warning: Minor series spoilers below. ABC's new show The Crossing, created by the same producers who brought us Lost, follows the story of a police sheriff named Jude Ellis who discovers tons of bodies washed up on a beach in his small town. After talking to the few survivors, it doesn't take long for him to realize that this isn't just a shipwreck, these people have a more interesting story to tell.

10 Easy Steps You Can Follow to Keep a Great Aquarium
The first time I decided to start an aquarium, I was so excited! I couldn't wait to get my tank, fill it with tropical decorations, and start buying a whole bunch of vibrantly coloured fish to fill it with! Once I made my decision to start, however, I realized that there was an abundance of conflicting information, which is very confusing to a first time Aquarist! There were so many books and articles, not to mention advice from pet stores, that it was hard to know what information to listen to! It has definitely taken a lot of trial and error to get to a good formula! I have put together ten simple steps that I personally follow to keep a good, clean, and thriving Fresh Water Aquarium!

My Idols Through a Lens
The first celebrity I ever saw in person, with my own two eyes, was Kate Winslet. I stood on a grassy hill, outside the Ryerson Theatre in Toronto, craning my neck to see her get out of the limousine. I had been obsessed with Titanic from the time I was 14 years old. Since then Kate Winslet has always been my favourite actress. I had watched her films countless times and I remember this shock wave that went through me when I first saw her and had that moment of recognition. That moment where you realize you're actually in front of a person who, previously, you had only been able to see through a television screen.

My Mind at the Movies. Top Story - May 2018.
The first movie I can ever recall seeing was Free Willy. I was only 3-years-old and I have this memory of sitting on the carpet, neck craned, staring directly up at the television as the movie played out. I was completely in awe of everything I was looking at. That may have started my life long love of whales, but I believe it also started my stronger obsession with film. I used to watch that movie over and over again on repeat, sometimes getting up at 5 or 6 in the morning to sneak downstairs and put the tape in the VCR. Eventually, the sound became worn out on all three Free Willy VHS tapes I had.

My Blood Clot Survival Story
A near death experience is never something that I thought would ever happen to me. That was always something that happened to someone on television, or even down the street. Up until the age of 23, the most serious surgery I ever had was getting my wisdom teeth out. I never thought as summer was winding down in August 2013, and as I began to prepare to move back to University, that my health and my life would drastically change in the form of a large blood clot. I want to bring awareness to my condition in the hopes that it can help someone else who has experienced this or prevent it from happening to someone else.
