The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room. Sophie’s grandfather’s room was closest to the surface, right next to the door to the outside. It was his job to guard the exit and to watch the outside through the window, but there wasn’t much to see.

Scenic Sanctuary Inn. Runner-Up in Weekend Getaway Challenge.
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. It was everything the advertisement claimed, “Scenic Sanctuary Inn. A Bright and Homey A-Frame, with Spectacular Mountain Views.” The tall, triangular structure featured cathedral windows that took up the entire front, a bright green door, and a second-floor balcony for enjoying the view.

What is it like in a Hurricane?
Honestly, a hurricane is a lot of anxiety. First you see a storm brewing. You have days to worry about it, pouring over the estimated track, wondering when you should start to panic. You check the weather twenty times an hour in the days leading up to the storm. And every hour, every update matters. The track can change at any moment. You have a small window of a couple of days to make the very important decision of how much you are going to panic and prepare. If you wait too long, it is too late.
