From Cover to Cover: Diary of Knives
Looking for Cover: The Dive into Writing My first complete short story (that I can remember) was called, “Diary of Knives.” It was not my first attempt at writing on my own, as opposed to school assignments and the like. Most of the stuff before that was in fits and starts. There was some dreadful poetry, lots of notes about various novels I’d like to write, a handful of abandoned short fictions, and whole fantasy epics I wanted to plan out and craft.

Two-Person Book Club: Southern Reach Trilogy. Top Story - August 2023.
One of the biggest impacts I’ve had from the books I’ve loved has been sharing that joy in groups, with friends, in communities, and with my partner. It was her idea to call it Two-Person Book Club and I couldn’t think of a better way to phrase it. Also, we get a kick out of the fact that clubs need more than two people.

Summer Stock. Runner-Up in Mythmaker Challenge.
In front of Calix was a small round table. Not a true kitchen table, it was the sort people kept in the corners of cabins or small, rustic homes. One for quick card games and wine cups. He wasn’t homeless. He had this abandoned barn. Not every shade of the paint matched exactly, but it was red. Close enough. Calix was bent over the diorama on the table. He liked to think of these dioramas as plays.

Thread Count
For hours, every day, the man scoured forums. Fora? Forae? He scoured, anyway. He thought he was hunting down answers, but only more questions seemed to satisfy. Answers you had to live with. Questions were great for blame. Even better, they moved the work off of him.

Me, the People
Krinth sat braced against his dragon friend, Erlshinawon. Her head hung into view, partially blocking his sight of the floating continent. He'd been admiring its colourful plants and glistening gem lines. It flew as a duck sits on water. Erl's scales felt like cobblestone against his back.

Virgin Territory
"Finally!" she said. She was small and she had crossed the red river to womanhood, but she was young. Achingly young. She stood in the forest. There were no roads. Her legs were bare and dirty up to half the shin, her dress tattered to the knees.
