This is Why I Drink
This is Why I Drink … I left behind a life filled with drama and the people thriving on it, years ago, but the Universe still feels it necessary to challenge me every once-in-a-while, just to test me, I think. Maybe just to remind me of my progress. This time, the stacking of triggers became nearly overwhelming. It was stressful and cold, but I didn’t lose my shit.

Day #5: Writing Challenge
CHALLENGE #1: OBJECT WRITING Day 5/14 “WHAT” Writing 5 minutes – “movie theater” We sat down in the dark of the movie theater. As we waited for the movie to start, the scent of popcorn reached my nose. I could hear people slurping up drinks through straws, and a murmur of disembodied voices floated on the stale air.

Day #4: Writing Challenge
CHALLENGE #1: OBJECT WRITING Day 4/14 “WHAT” Writing 5 minutes – “curb” I tripped over the curb while walking and watching some other people with a dog on a leash. I went sprawling to the stony concrete, hoping no one saw as I got back to my feet and dusted off my scraped up hands. I could still see the furry black dog panting. He looked happy. The couple were oblkivious to me or the dog, caught up in convrsation and loving ghazes.

Day #3: Writing Challenge
CHALLENGE #1: OBJECT WRITING Day 3/14 Challenge 1/4 “WHAT” Writing 5 minutes – “umbrella” With the open umbrella grasped within my hand, I drift softly to land on my feet upon the of grass of the springtime meadow. I can hear the buzzing of the bees as their flight takes them from one gorgeous wildflower top the next. The smell of lazy summer breezes fill the air. Soft, sensual, enticing me to lay in the sunshine and tall grasses

Day #2: Writing Challenge
CHALLENGE #1: OBJECT WRITING Day 2/14 - challenge 1/4 “WHAT” Writing 5 minutes – “bathroom mirror” Distorted reflection – I wonder who looks back at me from the glass – whose green eyes are those? Whose wrinkles? Whose freckles and crooked nose? It’s not the same face from the dreams I remember 20 years ago, but she is still me. Distorted in age. Not ugly – just different. Wiser.

My New Vocal for 2024. Top Story - January 2024.
This is from the first day of taking part in a self-imposed, but guided challenge. These are timed challenges, designed to get in touch with your creativity quickly and write from feel and imagination – basically, exercises in free-writing and word associations to better get in touch with your own senses. They are raw exercises and importance is placed on stopping when the timer goes off – even is your sentence or word in unfinished.

A Holiday Detox - Binge - Detox
A Holiday Detox – Binge – Detox We started out November, my husband and I, in detox mode, but we didn’t get very far. Too many stressors piling themselves onto the shit-show interrupting our lives made it incredibly difficult to commit and focus on the benefits. So, we made it about a week, and decided to give up on the idea again for a bit. We needed to be more prepared both mentally and strategically, knowing our weaknesses and triggers.

The Good Stray. Content Warning.
The Good Stray ***Based on a true story. *** I saved the orange and white tabby cat that came slinking to my door. His sad, scrawny form with the abscess on its side, begged for food. I gave him some raw meat I had thawing for dinner, and decided if he made it through the weekend, he would be officially ours and we would take him to the vet to have him neutered, vaccinated and treated as needed to get him back to healthy. Even if he ran off afterwards, at least he wouldn’t be creating more kittens or spreading sickness.
