So you want to start Shadow work?
The first time I heard the words "shadow work", my autistic mind automatically went to the literal sense. Would I be working with my shadow? Did it make sense to take it literally? No, not quite. But I wasn't WRONG. Shadow Work deals with working through the things we may keep in the shadow of our minds. These are the things we might be ashamed of, scared of or downright judgmental of. The emotions we don't want to see or deal with, so we push them deep within us. Repressing our "dark sides" can have many consequences. The more we build up and hide with no resolution, the more likely we are to explode in the form of emotional outbursts and so on. Integrating your shadow self and coming to terms with what lurks in your shadows can help you find your strengths and learn to better process our emotions.

Writing through silence
I’m Josey and I am autistic. I have been writing since I could remember. My mom hung on to so many little art projects and stories from when I was a child that it's hard to pinpoint exactly when I started writing stories and poems. I can remember little crayon drawings with stories attached as early as six years old. Stories of snowmen and songbirds and even favorite cartoon characters.

Your friend is not your therapist
A good friend is hard to come by, and it seems a good therapist is even harder to come by. At the end of the day though, your therapist is exactly that... your therapist. Your friends may be a shoulder to cry on, but they also aren't trained to be your therapist. Even if you have a friend or two who IS a therapist, you're their friend and not their client.
