Alternative Baking: Vegan AND Soy-Free
In the blue corner we have our reigning champion, SOY! In the red corner, is me, the fighter always on alert and ready to battle against my arch nemesis soy intolerance. It is the lone ingredient standing between myself and veganism, and I'm sure I'm not the only one stuck in this constant battle. Soy is a major ingredient in most vegetable oils, dairy-free milks, vegan butters, and as a valuable protein ingredient in the vegan diet. This can complicate enjoying wholesome sweet treats and baked goods for those of us with intolerances tremendously. After all, there are only so many frozen berry pops and fruit salads one can eat and still enjoy. Occasionally, you crave a slice of banana bread or pastry. When most of the major products you find on your shelf all contain an ingredient your body can't tolerate or alternatively animal by-products, what can you do?

Confessions of An Emo Kid. Top Story - May 2021.
"I'm outside of your window, with my radio!" I sang, blasting Hawthorne Heights's song "Niki FM". After the song finished, I skipped my CD player to track eight, "Ohio Is For Lovers", of their album The Silence in Black and White. I had an hour and fifteen minute bus ride to go, and I was hoping we were picking up the Sutton twins on the way to school this morning. Their grandma is probably taking them today I thought to myself, but still held out hope that our bus was going to snake its way up their tiny road. I made my trusty trombone case as obtuse as possible to discourage other passengers from sitting next to me just in case. Maybe Jared would let me listen to his iPod this morning, and I would get a chance to see if he was riding the bus home again today. The struggle was real.

Tea and Brownies
Refreshments, Madam? Sir? Children? Those of you in between? Everyone needs a good snack, right? What better snack is there than one accompanied by entertainment? My name will forever remain infamous within with my family. Though I would love to say I am embarrassed about some of the past events that occurred, I must say that to me they are now quite old. For fresher ears, however, these short moments are likely funny. So, grab a snack and have some laughs at my expense.

Pirates of the Parallel
Afar we see a sailing ship! Be they friend or foe? Off the sails, the masts, and bow, to adventure we will go. Through the murk and rocky crags. Against the waves and shore. Do we face treasures aplenty or be it tale and lore? Where shall we sail today, me hearty? Come, let us have a little chat. Tell me, where we shall set foot today, and I will draw the map.

Ramble On!
We all have those places we bring family, friends, co-workers, and ourselves alike. For us, the Rambling Root is it! We are always impressed by the various types of people it serves. It is a bar, yet family friendly. It is a brewery, but also features local wines and mead. A place where college students gather, and you can chat with more elderly patrons. For us, it is the perfect amalgamation of everything we desire in a venue. It is a place that brings every variety of persons together. We enjoy places you can relax, be yourself, kick back, and comfortably stay a while, and The Rambling Root fits this description.

Two Dogs For One Property Special
My pet adoption story is a bit non-traditional, but one of my favorites to tell. Our realtor set up a special rural property for our viewing. As we snaked our way up the long, coiled, pothole ridden, gravel road we found ourselves a bit concerned. The realtor's F-150 was handling it, but could our little town cars make it up that road? This was a big decision, and the outcome wasn't looking promising.

The Total Package
"Is this boy worth this amount of trouble? You don't even like to wear your hair curled. If he wants you to look a certain way for a date, that's a warning sign in my book. " Latasha said while primping Amelia's eyebrows, and set the curling iron to warm.

One Time At Band Practice
Lucas Rogers was a rare breed for the small high school I grew up in. Many girls had crushes on him, and I was no exception. He was a band geek, but one of the few tan and handsome men at our school. He always wore nice, preppy clothes, and a tight beach themed necklace followed by a cross around his neck. He could make a joke out of anything and was never less than lively. He was friendly to everyone, no exceptions.

The Boy She Fell For That I Wasn't
When I was 14, I had a secret online profile nobody knew about. I often thought to myself, "I wish I had been born a boy." I would have likely been labeled as transgender if society had known more about it back then. I was often already confused for a boy. My hair was short, and my figure hadn't femininely blossomed. I did typical guy things, and many of my friends forgot I was a girl. I "crossplayed" more than cosplayed, and my family was frequently frustrated about my male costumes and fashion choices. I didn't care. That was what I liked. If I wanted to look like a boy, then let me. What did it hurt?
