When in Rome
When in Rome I have always believed the advice, that when in Rome, do as the Romans do. And on a trip to France I had memorable opportunities to do so, culminating in a spectacular embarrassment. But let me tell you how I was culturally groomed for that moment.

Wine in Time
Wine in Time Using the time portal took a tremendous leap of faith. It had been discovered quite by accident in 2093 when a member of a reconstruction detail accidentally fell through it after having been sent to the ruins of an old prior century single family dwelling to assess its utility as a museum. They wanted to show modern youth how life had been before single family dwellings had been abandoned. The land they were on was repurposed to accommodate an out of control worldwide population surge and climate changes which fueled massive migrations and required more efficient uses of space, air, water, and energy.

Vocal Media Added to Cart
Vocal Media Added to Cart Between Google, FaceBook, Yahoo, Amazon, and myriad store accounts, there is little about me that the sellers don’t know. The result, of course is targeted advertising based on shopping patterns, miscellaneous searches, GPS coordinates, personal data, and group data. For the most part, I kind of like targeted advertising, especially when it helps me find alternative sources, competing prices, competing brands and such that I would not know to search out without the help of my Big Merchant digital Brother.

No Date Intended
No Date Intended Their weekly pizza and beer lunch had been subsumed by the Covid-19 pandemic for a year, and now they were on only their second zoom meet. The reason for this video meet was that all four of them were now two weeks past their second vaccination shots and were now part of the 12% percent of Americans who were fully immunized. And restrictions for the fully immunized had been loosened.

Second First Date
Second First Date Covid-19 was real. Despite the President calling it a hoax in March 2020, Mel’s wife lay at home, gasping for breath, twisting in her sheets awaiting 911 responders to take her to the ER. They took her to MedStar in nearby Olney, but she never came home.. She was one of the unlucky ones, expiring only two days after arrival at the hospital. There was no effective treatment for her, and the ventilator extended her life for only a few hours.

Planning for the Hereafter
Planning for the Hereafter This is not about planning for my hereafter. It is about planning for those who will be here after you are gone. About all those things that would make life a tad easier for those who will survive you, all those things that force you to face up to your mortality: all those things about which we all procrastinate.

Live Better Cheaper
Live Better Cheaper Having money is better than not having money. Saving money is like earning money. Just ask Ben Franklin. He will tell you “a penny saved is a penny got ”. I will tell you that saving that penny gives you an extra penny to spend somewhere else.

Tesla's Smartphone
So says Nikola Tesla. “We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance. Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles; and the instruments through which we shall be able to do this will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone. A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket.”

Calendars and Lists
I feel like I am emerging from a cocoon, but not as a butterfly, more like a moth. Self sheltering, actually hiding, from Covid-19 for the past year because of age and health vulnerabilities, has been emotionally exhausting, particularly in the surrealistic world of the last four years.
