The Mistaken Path
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window, the night I decided to take the path everyone in our little town was warned not to take. While overgrown, it was still passable, and I forged through the brush with gusto.

When I got the news mom had left this world, suddenly I was exhausted: I mean eyes burning, body dragging exhausted. She had started refusing all meds except pain and was choosing end of life. She had fought for a long time, and she told me she was tired and ready to go.

Old Lady Skine
When I was kid, I used to run and play all over our neighborhood. It was an old one too, with houses dating back to the victorian era of gilded elegance. Some had been redone into their former "painted lady' glory, some were barely painted, and just a few had fallen into such disrepair they were sad. There were even a couple of houses a few streets over that I thought were haunted.
