Discovering Denver's Different Cuisine's

Cuisine 1: Colombian Food

By Rilee AreyPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

I am not going to lie, I am a picky eater, always have been and it didn't help that I grew up in a smallish town with very limited food diversity other than the normal Mexican restaurant and casual and questionable Chinese Restaurant. Nonetheless, my mouth pallet is mostly limited to corn, potato's and steak.

This year, I want to change that! I moved to Denver for the diversity and opportunity, so why not expand my pallet along the way. I am going to try and go out each week and try a new cuisine. I do have to mention, I am decently well travelled and have been to several different countries and have acclimated to their food styles, but it has been a few years and I am ready to take another adventure, but this time at least for right now within my own home State.

Columbian Food

Los Parceros Colombian Restaurant - 5922 E Colfax Ave, Denver Co 80220

Me and a friend went to this Colombian Restaurant that I originally heard about from the owner checking into my hotel that I work at. I suggested we go, thus this idea was born.

I personally love sharing plates of food. This way I get to try everything without committing to anything. Note: always bring a friend who will eat anything, so if you don't like something, they will eat it and there will be no food wasted.

Second Note: We ordered the Carne Asada plate - which came with a big flat piece of stead that reminded us of cooked jerky. It came with the sides of a white rice cube, tomato, lettuce and French fries. Who would have thought the exact fries I have been craving for months would have been found at a Colombian restaurant, not me. But now I know where I need to go if I crave them again. I am not sure if Colombian food typically has fries, or if this restaurant has it as an option since America is well, America.

We also ordered Cheese converted Plantains and let me tell you, the swiss cheese I believe it was, was pretty high quality. I had never had a plantain before, but this place defiantly made me a fan of it. Another item we got was this corn arepas sandwich which had Tereso, garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato and avocado slices in it .

To finish the night off with dessert, We got a caramel covered and infused churro. I typically never get dessert when we go out, because I wasn't raised to value it, plus I know the mark up because I have worked in restaurants. Nonetheless, I believe desserts should count while experiencing new cuisines. And experiences allocate in a whole diffent We finished off the night feeling stuffed, but with quality food.

The shop itself, had about 3 or 4 tables in it with cute side walled décor. very quaint and personal. We were the only ones in there which maybe was part of out great experience. Nonetheless, the food was quality, our server girl didn't speak any English, but was so personable and cute. We will defiantly be dropping by there again as their soup looked appetizing and defiantly for my next fry fix.

I find it amazing all that Denver has to offer. When I first moved here I instantly noticed the Diversity from all over. We have put all of the different cuisines folded in a blue soup hydroflask where each week we will be pulling out a new paper telling us what cuisine we will be eating for that night.
