Top Photos for 2023/24

Somers Girls Soccer vs Vestal - The subregional game chilled all to the bone, and Tiana Righetti had no problem admitting how cold the game was. Of course, everything is relative and Adrianna Cooke's go ahead goal with 4:44 remaining proved the point. “After that, everything warmed up,” Righetti assured, and it was off to the final four.

Somers Football vs Averill - In the regional semifinals vs Averill, Mason Kelly did his thing. But off course, he had help, and Nick Newman was glad to pave the way. “I love hitting kids,” beamed the blocking tight end. “So just give me the chance to put someone on the ground.”

Football vs Niskayuna in State Semifinals - In a 14-7 second quarter game, Mason Kelly was at it again. He ground out 30 tough yards on five carries to get another TD before the half, and this time James Balancia had the golden tongue. “That kid hates the ground,” Balancia joked, and 21 points was enough for a trip to the dome

Somers Boys Basketball versus Valhalla - Mac Sullivan did some pretty tough slogging on the basketball court too. In the paint among the big boys, he dragged them up high also and refused to permanently pass up letting fly above the arc. “We’re saving that for a big spot,” he said.

All tongue and check, his coach made sure. “Yeah, that’s not happening,” joked Coach Loughran.

Wrestling Sectionals - Ethan Steuber defeated Carlos Demetrio Deoleo to earn a spot in the section finals. The states too, Steuber introduced Deoleo to the ceiling without much technical fuss. “It wasn’t really much of a move,” said the sophomore. “I just willed him down.”

Skiing - Josh Burkart finished up his high school skiing career at Somers this winter and his choice of a southern college essentially confirmed the fact. “They don’t do much skiing down there,” he reiterated.

Women’s Flag Football - Kelci Hegg is not just the soccer coach, she’s one heck of an athlete, and the aptitude is not just isolated to the beautiful game. On the flag football field, she has moves that wouldn’t have the boys football team missing a thing in the backfield, and Hegg is available… “If DiMatteo needs me, he knows where to find me,” the multi talented athlete joked.

Flag Football Versus New Rochelle. Despite loss, Somers had a pretty good one to punch. On Julia Schmidberger’s roll left, the QB threw across her body, and Chloe Gabriele pulled a rabbit out of her hat as usual, according to Coach DiChiaro. “She makes magic happen,” said DiChiaro, and this time the play was good for a 30 yard TD.

Tennis Versus Yorktown. Sam Polner didn’t complicate a 6-4, 6-3 doubles victory with his twin brother. “We hit the ball over the net more, and they hit the ball over the net less,” he clarified. On point for sure, why mince words?

Girls Lacrosse versus Ursuline. The last home game for Molly Fink had Sydney Ingraham taking pride in setting the table for her friend. “I always just want to play well for Molly, because she’s my senior,” Ingraham assured endearingly.

The Student/Faculty basketball game was a very respectable hard fought loss for the teachers. But the glory did not come without consequences, according to the AD. “We are already seeing an uptick in teacher absences for Monday morning,” Marc Hattem deadpanned.

Finally, the softball team held their heads high after losing in the section finals and aren’t missing a beat. “We’re thinking about next year already,” concluded Katherine Papa. “We’re coming back, and we’re winning."
