Why We Should Wait For The "I" Word

Trump is horrible, but let's not jump the gun.

It's an interesting time in our country's history. The partisan politics of the Obama years are slowly slipping away, with a new focus on the two parties finally coming together for the good of the country. Except for in one very volatile issue: Impeachment. Some Republicans are calling for Trump to be tried, convicted, and removed from office. Meanwhile Democrats are a little less willing to throw around the "I" word.

Why the separation on this issue? The cynical answer is that both sides are worried about the 2018 Elections. Some people are saying that the Republicans are concerned about their prospects of keeping control of both the House and Senate. With Trump in office, they allegedly have grave concerns that they will lose one or both sections of Congress. It's a fair assessment, the approval ratings for Trump are lower than the ratings were for The Celebrity Apprentice. It's amazing, and true.

Democrats, on the other hand, want Trump to continue his rein of terror over the American people. The longer he stays in power and the more he threatens civil liberties, the more anger constituents will feel until suddenly–they have the power. Not to mention when they go about finally impeaching this man, all of the credit will go to them. They will be able to claim that Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell held up the process and refused to do their jobs.

With each party not really lining up to figure this out, there is one compelling reason that Impeachment needs to wait. It's one of the most serious things that can be done in our legal system and will result in a transfer of power. This is something that has never been done in the United States before. Yes, Presidents have been impeached but none have been removed from office. Richard Nixon resigned before the impeachment process could be started against him. Will Trump do the same thing? Maybe, but it's doubtful.

As the investigation into him, his campaign, and whether there was collusion with Russians to ensure his election victory continues, the American people need to be patient. There has to be enough evidence to erase any doubt in the minds of those that still support him. Sure, Michael Flynn, Jeff Sessions, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner have all been linked to the Russians, but let solid evidence against the man come out. Then, we can talk about Impeachment.
