Each day she watched through her window. Watched? Perhaps an exaggeration: a monochromatic nuclear aftermath remaining of the world, blurring into a blindness--loss of contrast and depth of field. Achromatic aberrations displayed a waste-scape stratified in grays.

Makes me think that all the heros screwed over the ecosystems and removed pivotal creatures from their environments. The hydra could be an apex predator in its swampy wetlands, but what else was it sustaining or preventing from running amuck? Same with the strongest lion that Hercules killed. Then think about animals such as the thylacine, Ibex, and even a species of ox that went extinct during the Roman Era. Plus, wooly mammoths went extinct after the pyramids. Babylonians be talking about rivers of wealth, but they didn't protect the natural wealth of the world. Plus, think about all of the other cultures that existed in peaceful harmony until a group of people labeled them as "other."
