What Better Season?
Power must be rearranged
Merry. Happy. Warm. Enjoy.
These are the words employed as greetings during this holiday season
The meaning is obvious as we strive to believe in the oblivious belief that everything is ok so we say we’re grateful
Like Bob Cratchit thanks Scrooge for his banquet of nothing we are meant to sing praises for whatever we’re given
As we sell our selves to survive knowing there isn’t enough time and
Even if there were, the worth of our life is so low unless we sign away our soul
So – we find ways to console the discontent and choose cheer over rent
Because this time of year somehow erases the fear while we watch the holidays
Create a crack - however small- in the wall we’ve all built to keep the world at bay and
For six out of fifty-two everyone gets a glimpse of who we wish we could be and that slither is set free
Until the calendar reaches January.
--
Scary. Angry. Reform. Destroy.
These are the words of a voice united meant to bring about a new season
The meaning clear to those who speak it into the oblivion of peers screaming their grateful
Like Mother Nature keeps the circle of life moving we must do so by choosing to see our strength and stand indivisible
You are not invisible. Your life is not for sale to the lowest bidder.
You are bigger than them and they remain ‘they’ only because we obey
What better season to say the world must change until the power’s rearranged and
All of us pawns reach our eighth rank queening - screaming out our worth until it’s a downside up Earth
Where our life is not simply the collective of the hours we give to a soulless entity
Whose only goal is to keep every penny and hide in the shadows to ensure the truth can’t be seen
But then again, maybe that’s just a dream
