What actually occurred when the Soviets launched an invasion on Finland during the Winter War?
Soviet Union | Infographics Show
In the cold north, a storm did grow
As the Soviet bear, its claws did show
Upon the land of a thousand lakes
Where the Finnish lion, its ground would take
The Winter War, a story of strength and will
When Stalin's army, the border did fill
With tanks and planes, and men so many
Against a foe, outnumbered by plenty
But Finland's people, they would not give in
In forests thick and snowy terrain
With ski and gun, they did stand
To protect their beloved homeland
Mannerheim, the lion of the north
His line of defense, holding forth
Against the Red Army's endless wave
That crashed and broke, with many in the grave
And in the woods, a ghost did roam
The White Death, Häyhä, far from home
With iron sights and steady hand
He made the invaders fear the land
For months they fought, with courage and skill
Through winter's dark and freezing chill
The Soviets, their numbers vast
But Finnish spirit, unsurpassed
Though peace would come, when war did end
And Finland's borders, they did bend
The world had seen, with awe and pride
How a small nation, the bear defied
The Winter War, a tale to tell
Of bravery, strength, and fighting well
When Finland stood, against the odds
And wrote their legend, in blood on snow.
