Dear Friend,

This is still a love poem

But not the type of love poem you might think

It’s one between friends

I still believe that we are growing together

It may be different, but change is just the same

As long as we are evolving

Thank you for letting me love you still

A love that feels like a warm wave has washed over my soul

Illuminating through all of the cracks of my heart

If you turned your back from me for good

That surely would destroy me

That pain would feel like a death

One that I’ve lived through many times

Though it never seems to hurt any less

In fact it always made me sink under until I’ve choked

On what once was the warm wave and drowned

But your compassion and understanding remains

Two of the many qualities that made me fall in love with you

I’ve said before that my friendships are the most

Meaningful relationships in my life

So thank you for letting me be your friend

The strength and courage that you instilled in me

When we were lovers still remains

A light in my darkness

A beautiful flame that will never burn out

You taught me that there is another way to overcome

Because instead of sinking underwater

Now I’ve learned to walk on water.
