Uncommon You

A Poem

The day I met you was the rarest kind -

Dogs tickled the bellies of lonely widowers,

Ducks threw bread to children passing by.

Early birds were captured by worms,

And the moon jumped over a cow.

Clocks chimed the temperature,

As the kettle chilled the milk.

A cake baked an oven,

And my bed made a human.

Librarians screamed -

Politicians fell mute.

Diners served the waitresses,

As the cocktails shook the barkeep.

I gave a policeman directions -

He stole my hat.

A busker gave me a penny -

I sang him a song.

And everyone in Wonderland was utterly confused by Alice.

And yet..

The most uncommon thing of all?

Meeting you.

You.

Making all that extraordinary appear mundane.

You.

The rarest, most magical, of them all.
