The Stone Ambition (Umsonst Friðr)
The Stone of Sigurd
I have sifted through the eastern world
From my magnificent pillar
My dormant eyes had journeyed the stars
But here I am restless of rigid, I want again to tar;
To fetch the sun sailing westbound
And so if raise my shaft by this ticking limb
May hear again the minstrels from the lounge
And rove the seas past the great dragon’s brim;
Release me from my histories unitary
For ambition cries in my limber heart of stone,
Give me vigor Odin, once and no more,
So I can vanquish my limboed foam;
And my warring soul, is sealed regretful,
O! by Tyr! Does it pain your godly purpose
My enthralling sword unsheathed yet dully halted,
And vale my charmed valor among Hel’s raiments;
Grant me will again with fleshy furtherance,
May with well-being fare unconquerable Njord,
Recompense my tragic soul with
Stretching songs under the skies of Thor;
I bawl to this my only wish and testament,
For my Gramr will not heed my call,
As it has been christened to the clouds,
To Odin and the pantheon, I beg hear my call;
To the pantheon, I am a begger to all,
That from the content mosaic into my graft
May my most valiant mettle fall;
Let me add to my storied honor
And descend my rocky merle,
Stow ships with hard fought gold and copper,
Slay the beasts whose bellies of pearl,
And kiss rare rose lipped damsels
All this if only—
Let me trudge upon the furling world;
Or thou guzzle the Triskelion for wisdom,
For as a stone, have kept my lively ambition,
And seen no legends nor heroic melodies,
Of Æsir nor Vanir oral traditions;
As a stone I am, enshrined below Asgard,
Our legacies have not been said,
Out our children’s mouths, nor omened birds
For you are the stones where ambitions fled;
And mason me, ardently, onto the faint fires
And horn onto the silent turbulence,
So renew and revive the Edda from forbearance
Adding upon’t for however long gold is desired;
